Why Not? Why Stop? Atmosphere, Movement, Information: A Performative Experience

H/D +Projects is proud to present Why Not? Why Stop? by Richard Decker in collaboration with Chelsea Petrakis, Vanessa Vogel and Hazel Sikorski. Creating an atmosphere suspended in space with movement connecting all that are present, Why Not? Why Stop? offers a moment to pause before you go off and party the night away.

Poised at a new year, like millions around the world, Decker is celebrating and contemplating ideas of time and existence. Objects reach out in spirals and swirls and mimic deep roots with high sprung branches. Movers engage each motion with a clear path and invite you into intimate moments of reflection.

Performance begins at 7:13pm

Bethany Ides

Half/Dozen +projects is pleased to host Bethany Ides and her opera, “Children Get Stuck Places Underground”. The narrative of Baby Jessica McClure, epically rescued from a backyard well shaft in 1987, is woven together with those of Pauline Réage’s transgressive non-character, O, to effect a chronicle of possession, transformation and fortitude. Countless children (count among them Alice, Tikki Tikki Tembo and the Old Testament’s Joseph) have emerged from such holes wholly altered. This work celebrates their veracity and ingenuity. This Performance will be held June 25th and 26th at 7pm and 9pm both nights.

Ashley Sloan

Half/Dozen Gallery’s +projects hosts Ashley Sloan, and her installation “High Hopes”. Pink balloons float ambivalently over viewers’ heads for one night; enticing, inviting, hovering and oppressing. Held on March 27th 2010 at 7pm to 10pm.

Lucy Yim

H/D +Projects presents Merriment and a Fleet of Hooves: A Series of Improvised Events by Lucy Yim. January 31st 2010 at 5pm – 8pm.

Tim Mahan

H/D +Projects is pleased to welcome the installation work of artist Tim Mahan. His new piece Side Tangled creates a twisted boundary with a seemingly endless amount of yellow utility rope. Draping and coiling from the ceiling, the rope draws attention to the vertical dimension of the space, dividing the room into two unequal halves. Opens November 30th 2009 at 7pm to 9pm.

Bonnie Green

This piece can be viewed from the front parameters of the room as well as the staircase. You are encouraged to float around during the performance to experience different perspectives of the movement. The total duration of the piece is approximately 20 minutes and will revolve 3 times with no breaks. The performance begins at 7:30pm on November 2nd.
