This Thursday May 6th, for Half/Dozen Gallery’s First Thursday event, we open “Filperama Rhapsody” by Artur Silva. Fliperama Rhapsody transforms the space into a faux arcade full of blinking lights, functional and non-functional arcade machines, a video installation and fog billowing from unseen corners. This installation is not simply an attempt to recreate an arcade at a gallery. The real arcade had street hustlers, prostitutes and all sorts of crazy activities, smells and other visuals. Fliperama Rhapsody attempts to create a dialogue between the artist now and the artist at age 12, while at the same time poking fun of nostalgia as it relates to consumption.
