Opening Reception: Level 1: Stage 1 by John Berry
Thanks to everyone who came out on Thursday night for the opening reception of John Berry’s Level 1: Stage 1. Despite the cold, rainy weather we had a great turnout. The show will be up through January 30th, 2010, so if you missed it you will have plenty of time. You can find images and information at the links below.

H/D +Projects: Side Tangled by Tim Mahan
We had a one-night-only installation on Monday, November 30th by Tim Mahan, who is also the director of Half/Dozen. The installation was made of yellow utility rope hanging from the ceiling, running from the front door to the back of the gallery, over the balcony and back into the living quarters. People could pull and move the hanging strands, creating tangled messes of rope. You can find more images and information at the links below.

Level 1: Stage 1 Opens This Thursday
First Thursday is just around the corner and we have a new show opening, Level 1: Stage 1 by John Berry. The work draws on imagery from pre-renaissance landscapes, where space is determined more through the relationship of color and shapes than through volumetric forms. Berry integrates this with puzzles, mazes, forts and 8-bit video games, such as Super Mario Brothers and the original Zelda for Nintendo.

Side Tangled One-Night-Only Installation This Monday
This coming Monday at Half/Dozen there will be a one-night-only installation by Half/Dozen Gallery director Tim Mahan. Side Tangled creates a twisted boundary with a seemingly endless amount of yellow utility rope. Draping and coiling from the ceiling, the rope draws attention to the vertical dimension of the space, dividing the room into two unequal halves.

It’s always a sad day when you have to remove something like this wall drawing that Gala Bent did for last month’s show.
Bleeding Wall…you will be missed!

Half/Dozen received a warm welcome onto Everett Street this past ‘First Thursday.’ Art Club’s wildly successful opening reception went off without a glitch. Crowds of people poured in and out the door over a period of a few hours. Upbeat and lighthearted, the atmosphere was completely energizing. People lingered over wine while savoring the diverse collection of work. At times it was so crowded that you were only able to see the work by hugging the perimeter of the room. Unfortunately none of the artists were able to be there to experience the excitement surrounding their work, but it is certainly safe to say that each piece piqued curiosity and received generous attention by the people of Portland. It was a happy opening opening and a well-recieved first ‘First Thursday’ (perhaps that’s too redundant?). The general mood was jovial and left us very excited for what’s to come.
